The Bay Area After School All Stars to be recipients of "SSV Kidzone" seats for the MLS San Jose Earthquakes match on June 2nd at Buck Shaw Stadium against Robbie Rogers, Guillermo Barros Schelotto, and Frankie Hejduk and the Columbus Crew
Soccer Silicon Valley Community Foundation is pleased to welcome 50 children and families from the Bay Area After School All Stars as their guests in the SSV Kidzone for the MLS San Jose Earthquakes game on June 2nd at Buck Shaw Stadium versus the Columbus Crew.
"Soccer Silicon Valley, through our community foundation in partnership with the San Jose Earthquakes, has set up a program to bring 50 deserving kids to every Earthquakes home game," says SSV Kidzone Chair Lloyd Danon. "Because of the deserving children that the Bay Area After School All Stars serves, we selected them to receive tickets for free admission to this game."
"We are really excited to be working with the team's fans through SSV Community Foundation on the Kidzone," says Earthquakes Executive Vice President David Alioto. "We are pleased with the choice of Bay Area After School All Stars as a deserving program for this partnership."
About Bay Area After-School All-Stars:
The Bay Area After-School All-Stars provide free, comprehensive out-of-school programming for under-served youth, focusing on enriching the mind, body, and character of every child we serve, and giving them the skills and self-confidence needed to more fully engage and succeed in the core school day.
Over the past 12 years, After-School All-Stars has played a major role in the transformation of San Jose from a city with too many unproductive, unsupervised kids with too much time to get into trouble to one providing these youth with valuable structured after school programs. The All-Stars program uses a comprehensive model focusing on a holistic approach to academics, enrichment, physical activity, and service learning to engage at-risk elementary and middle school students in the after school hours. In fact, students participating in our program add the equivalent of 90 extra school days to their academic year and are exposed to a variety of subjects no longer explored during the school day. These elementary and middle school programs are offered through partnership with the San Jose Unified School District, the Mount Pleasant School District, Alum Rock Union Elementary School District, and Campbell Union School District, utilizing many of their teachers and other school staff as part-time employees of the program.
The Bay Area After-School All-Stars supports and manages The All-Stars Sports League. In addition to remaining free-of-charge to all ASAS participants, the league expands on previous sports programs offered by combining all of the districts into one, unified league, providing students with the opportunity to compete against students in other school districts. The league offers five sports—Soccer, Flag Football, Wrestling, Softball, and Basketball (either coed or with separate boys and girls teams for each middle school) with seasons throughout the year.
